I have 2 sets of Bose outdoor speakers - One set under a veranda roof and these out by my pool. These are the best you can get if you need something that will be integrated in landscaping, etc. If you can place the speakers under cover or attach them to your house I would recommend the other Bose outdoor speakers.

Sennheiser HD 650 Lightweight Open-Air Dynamic Audiophile Headphone Review

Sennheiser HD 650 Lightweight Open-Air Dynamic Audiophile Headphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So headphone.com calls them "simply the world's best headphone." I can't speak for the Grado or AKG contenders. I can say that they're better than my Sennheiser 590's, and that is shocking.

Which leads me to my first (and probably most important) point about this headphone. They cost a lot. A whole lot. Sennheiser has many units, including the 580, 590, 595, 600, and 650 (among many others), which could be construed as 'reference' quality. You'll spend about half as much on one of the 5xx models as you will on the 650. So if you were to ask me whether the 650 is *twice as good* (that is to say, it costs more in proportion to its increased capability), I'll tell you no, probably not. I might just not buy them, given the decision again. Perhaps if the price came down a bit.

At any rate, they are really a superb headphone. The sound is really incredible. You never really realize what you're missing in a recording until you've heard it through a set like this. You can hear the saliva in the back of a vocalist's throat. I'm not kidding. Everything is reproduced clearly, accurately, crisply, and I've yet to find any recording (Vocal, Classical, Electronic, etc) that can tax them. I suppose I'll stop trying to some day, but it's just wonderful to hear the headphones doing their job.

The construction is far more solid than the 590's are. Where there is plastic on the 590, you see metal and (no kidding) Kevlar. They are more attractive. They are also quite a bit heavier. They have a 1/4" connector instead of the more customary 1/8" mini connector -- this doesn't particularly bother me, I'll get to it in a minute.

Like the 590, they are an open headphone. That is, they are not "sealed" or "isolated". Sound from around you will seep in, and it is possible for others to hear what you are listening to (somewhat).

They are less comfortable. My guess is because of the metal band, the "spring" mechanism that keeps them round is tighter than the 590's, and it pinches. It really feels as though somebody is compressing your head. The ear cups are fine. They are almost identical to the 590's, but a little larger.

So, you probably wouldn't be here if you didn't know you needed an amplifier for these headphones (this is where the 1/4" plug comes in). However, it bears mentioning that you should not even consider buying these cans without first buying a capable amplifier. The PPA/PIMETA amps are cheapish, and Headphone.com has some that will work fine. To demonstrate this, you'll need another headphone and the 650. Connect the other headphone to your amplifier. Listen at a comfortable level. Then, relax a second, and attach the 650. The first thing you should notice is that the white noise is gone. The second thing -- other than the sound quality, of course -- is that it is much quieter. These cans need a lot of power to drive them effectively. Look at their specifications and you will understand (300 ohms of impedance!).

Buy em if you want the best and aren't afraid to spend the $$. Buy the 590's or 595's if what you need is a stellar headphone and you don't want to spend too much. Use the extra money to buy yourself an amp. You'll need it.

Harman Kardon AVR 635 7.1 Channel Surround Sound Audio/Video Receiver Review

Harman Kardon AVR 635 7.1 Channel Surround Sound Audio/Video Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Forget the Watts... this baby delivers more punch (at a greater clarity) at 75 watts than any 100 watt receiver you find from dennon, sony, or kenwood (especially since it is high current). Where the AVR 635 really shines is in the combination of ease of setup and flexibility of configuration.
Usually a receiver is either easy to setup, but ties you into a fairly ridgid configuration, or it is very flexible, but terribly difficult to get setup correctly.
Setting up your AV channels is a breeze, you simply select what video source goes with what audio source and give it a name, and you're done. That said you have the ability to fine tune any of this configuration, as you see fit.
Balancing audio for the room is even easier, you plug the microphone in (ships with the unit), hit setup, and you're done. Instant room EQ.
I've had the unit for a month or two now, and haven't had time to dive into the finer features, because it does everything I really need it to right out of the box.
Plan on spending an hour, read the instructions, go to the setup, and you will be enjoying the best sound money can buy.
(P.S. if you're thinking about the 7300, go with the 635, it's a better value, and you're never miss those other 25 watts.)

Harman Kardon's AVR 635 7.1-channel audio/video surround receiver includes the company's latest features and technologies on top of near-universal surround-format compatibility. Internally, the receiver is engineered for extraordinary sonic performance, featuring a discrete-output amplifier section that delivers seven channels of high-current (+/- 50 Amps), ultrawide-bandwidth amplification--7 x 75 watts into 8 ohms, 20 to 20,000 Hz with less than 0.07 percent THD--in addition to state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters and a high-power Texas Instruments 32-bit DSP processor.
The AVR 635's wealth of cutting-edge technologies also includes quadruple-crossover bass management, automatic digital input polling, video cross-conversion (which converts all composite- and S-video sources to high-resolution component-video), bidirectional RS-232 connectivity with software and firmware upgradeability, A/V sync delay, and a slot-mounted tuner that may be upgraded at a future date to accommodate HD Radio.
Surround sound features include Dolby Virtual Speaker, Dolby Headphone processing, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx processing (which provides an expansive, full-range 7.1-channel program from any stereo or 5.1-channel source). The receiver handles all other popular formats (including Dolby Digital EX and Dolby Digital 5.1), all standard DTS modes (including 6.1 DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS Neo:6, Cinema 6.1/5.1, and Music 6.1/5.1), and even the latest DTS 96/24 high-resolution audio technology. In addition, the AVR 635 provides HDCD (High-Definition Compatible Digital) processing to deliver the best possible CD playback quality from HDCD-encoded discs.
You also get Harman's proprietary Logic 7 audio for enhanced multichannel reproduction from both matrix-encoded and 2-channel recordings. The latest implementation of Logic 7 provides improved post-processing for the rear surround channels.
The receiver's many audio and video connections include three wide-bandwidth, assignable HDTV-compatible component-video inputs. The AVR 635 also features multiroom/multisource operation with independent, simultaneous playback of two program sources, assignable back surround amplifier channels, A-BUS connectivity, and a Zone II remote. The A-BUS Ready system simplifies multiroom connectivity without external amplifiers. It uses a standard Cat5/Ethernet cable to connect the receiver's rear panel in one room to a Harman Kardon AB 1 A-BUS-compatible amplifier/control module in a separate room.
Along with its extensive video connectivity, the receiver offers a array of digital and analog audio connections, including multiple coaxial and optical digital audio inputs and outputs. It sports both analog and digital front-panel inputs, 6-/8-channel direct audio inputs, and 7.1-channel preamp outputs to accommodate a DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, or universal player.
The AVR 635 is also among the first receivers to include EzSet/EQ, which provides automated system calibration and room equalization, which greatly simplifies installation as it improves system performance by tailoring the output of the receiver to your speakers, compensating for the effects of room acoustics.
The receiver's quadruple-crossover bass-management system lets you choose from six different crossover frequencies for the front L/R, center, surround L/R, and surround back L/R speakers. Most receivers and DVD players have far more limited crossover filtering or none at all. Moreover, you can set different speaker-size configurations for different AVR 635 input sources according to your needs.
You get a high-quality FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets and a Listener Preference System that lets you specify a surround mode according to the program source. You can also set speaker-channel levels for each program source and DSP format (for example, the subwoofer level can be set differently for multichannel movie viewing and 2-channel CD music listening).
What's in the Box Receiver, remote control, remote batteries, an EzSet/EQ microphone, FM wire/AM loop antennas, warranty information, and user's manual.

Blue Microphones Bottle Rocket Stage 1 Solid State Microphone with B8 Capsule Review

Blue Microphones Bottle Rocket Stage 1 Solid State Microphone with B8 Capsule
Average Reviews:

Bought a "new" one off Amazon. Box had clearly been opened before. Was missing the microphone cable. Amazon gave me 10% discount, but after testing the mic with my Mbox 2 Pro firewire card and Pro Tools 8.0, I discovered that the mic would stick at a high-level and send a loud noise into Pro Tools everytime I began singing into it. My AT 3035 works fine, and I've since returned the Blue mic and purchased a much better Neumann U87 which also works fine. I think I got a dud that someone else had returned to Amazon and they passed it off on me hoping I wouldn't notice. The mic did look great and the capsule idea really drew me towards it.

Boston Acoustics Classic Series CPS12Wi Wireless Ready Powered Woofer (Black) Review

Boston Acoustics Classic Series CPS12Wi Wireless Ready Powered Woofer (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been beating on this thing for a few days so now it's time for a quick review. I replaced a Boston CS Sub10 with this one and could not be happier. It has great power at 400 watts rms (850 peak). The bass is deep , rich and smooth with no audible port noise which is a plus. This must be due to the heavy magnet structure, tight spider and stiff woofer cone. The woofer also has a high roll surround for long excursion. It has the kind of bass you can feel as well as hear. I have it paired with the rest of the Boston CS line which includes 2 CS 226's, 1 CS 225C and 4 CS 26's for a 7.1 system. It is all being pushed by an Onkyo 806 at 135W x 7 and it has no trouble keeping up at all. The CS Sub10 kept bottoming out cause it couldn't keep up hence the replacement. Those of you who have heard a sub bottom out know what I'm talking about cause it will drive you nuts. I look at other subs but decided to stick with Boston CS line because timbre matching is an important aspect of a great system. It will create a more balanced sound because the tonal chacteristics of the speakers are the same. Overall, I'm very happy with this sub and I only wish I had done it sooner.

Yamaha RX-V1900BL 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

Yamaha RX-V1900BL 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this receiver to replace my older Yamaha RX-V1000 which I liked a lot and had no problems with the entire time I had it. I purchased this receiver to get HDMI, HD Radio, and Zone 2 amplified sound. I have the amplifier set up to drive an LCD HDTV via HDMI and a projector w/ component video.
Sound Quality: This was high priority for me as I primarily listen to music. I was VERY happy with the sound quality and I feel like it sounds better than my RX-V1000 (which I feel sounded much better to the Denon 38xx receivers and was on par w/ a B&K receiver my friend has). I don't use any of the different DSP effects for sound stages, etc. The surround sound (at least 5.1 as that's all I use) audio sounds better than my RX-V1000 too. Sound from the center channel is much more defined and clear. Not sure why but it's nicer. BOTTOM LINE....excellent sound!
Connections: The receiver could have a better layout for connections but in the end, I really don't have any problems with it. There are a lot of connections so you should be fine. I would have liked dual HDMI outputs but you get that w/ a more costly receiver and it wasn't that important to me. Note, as with many other multi-zone receivers that I have used/tested, only the main zone can handle digital audio inputs, other zones must have analog inputs so you must connect all your audio sources to analog (or digital + analog) if you want audio in Zones 2 or 3. Bottom Line....very good quantity of connections of course I would like vendors to "drop" support for composite and s-video....I mean, c'mon, who really needs those connections w/ this type of amp? :) Also, it's difficult to get to the speaker terminals and would be better if they were all in one line at the bottom of the receiver. BOTTOM LINE....good array of connections.
Setup: Typical Yamaha on-screen menus. I did not use the YPAO to set up the receiver yet so I can't comment on that. I set it up manually and it wasn't particularly difficult. I like the fact that the amplifier has a "maximum volume" setting as I use this for Zone 2 so I won't overdrive the amp by accident. I also like the fact that the the main zone and 2nd zone are completely separate. The main amp can essentially be "off" while zone 2 is playing or vice-versa. Granted, not all electronics are off when you do this but turning off the main zone keeps the amp running cooler if all i need is audio in the 2nd zone. BOTTOM LINE....setup is average and probably just as easy/painful as one might expect.
Surround: I find the Surround Settings to be odd. I obviously need to play w/ the amp some more but it's not clear to me when dolby digital or DTS sound is being played as I can make the "dts" sign light up even if it's just Dolby Digital. Still, I confirmed that DTS works at least w/ regular DVDs. I'm sure Blu-Ray dvd's will be fine but I'm still fine-tuning this portion. BOTTOM LINE.....the audio from Surround sources sound great, getting the Surround settings configured correctly is a bit confusing.
Tuner: I really only listen to 1 station that supports HD Radio but strangly enough, I can't pick up the HD signal from this station but I can from others. Being public radio, I'm guessing that they don't broadcast w/ as much power as many other stations so I think I'm too far to pick up the HD Radio signal from this station as I understand that the HD Radio signal is like 1/10 of the power of the normal analog signal. Oh well, it still sounds good but tuning stations w/ this receiver is as painful as my previous receiver. Again, this should normally only be done during initial set-up so the pain should only be front-loaded. BOTTOM LINE.....it's a tuner and does its job, just a somewhat painful setup.
Remotes: Somewhat standard Yamaha remote controls.....average, poor, confusing. I definitely like the Zone 2 remote control and really wish that it had a "sleep" button on it like the main remote does. I mean, if I can set Zone 2 to a sleep timer with the main remote, it seems like I'd like to have this feature on the Zone 2 remote, right? :) Ultimately I don't use the remotes all that much except for simple things so it's not too much of a pain for me. BOTTOM LINE.....somewhat painful main remote but zone 2 remote is nice.
Summary: I am very happy with this amplifier and would recommend it to anybody.

Yamaha RX-V863BL 735 Watt 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Review

Yamaha RX-V863BL 735 Watt 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

I've had this receiver & its ipod dock for about 45 days. Picked this one over the 663 for its video upscaling. I use it mainly for watching dvds and ipod videos, streaming netflix, and listening to ipod and HD radio music.
Pros: Quality of sound and video output met my high expectations. (I'm biased toward Yamaha already FWIW). Surround fields are versatile & distinct. The enhancer modes are fantastic for low volume listening. Headphone listening is stellar. Config menus are straightforward. YPAO was easy to set up, though I wound up tweaking rear speaker adjustments up a bit as personal preference. The remote runs all our gear. I dusted off old concert and movie DVDs and this receiver makes them seem new again.
Cons: No macro mode on the remote to power everything on & off with one button. HD radio control is not intuitive. So far I haven't figured out if I can navigate a docked ipod's menus with my TV osd which would be nice.
Bottom line: I saved up and looked at a LOT of receivers before choosing this one, and I'm not disappointed at all. The RX-V863 is everything advertised and lives up to Yammy's top shelf reputation.

Sony STR-DA6400ES 120 Watt 7.1 multi-room A/V receiver with internet connectivity (Black) Review

Sony STR-DA6400ES 120 Watt 7.1 multi-room A/V receiver with internet connectivity (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm posting this review because I have seen no information on this product. I only have about two days experience with it, and I'm not an audiophile, so your mileage may vary: as such this review will mainly discuss the functionality of the receiver, not the quality. I will update as more information becomes available.
Connected this receiver to a Sony XBR6 52" LCD, model KDL52XBR6, Sony Blu ray player BDP-350, and a Dish Network Vip-722, with a Sony SA-W3000 12" subwoofer and 5 Polk Audio TC-80i speakers tucked neatly behind the drywall, 10' up, aimed towards the couch, in an 8000+ cubic-foot tiled living room (20' x 20' x 20'). I expected a lot of echoing, which I got, and like I said I'm not an audiophile, so I'd best stick to functionality and features, not quality.
One of my functionality concerns was the DLNA feature. The product manual found online mentions nothing about this feature, but the product in fact contains a second manual outlining the features. Prior to connecting the receiver I had installed TVersity on a Windows XP box. The television (which I believe had a DLNA sticker on the box, but no DLNA certificate on DLNA.org) failed to connect with TVersity (claiming TVersity was not a DLNA compliant server - and TVersity claims vice versa, though neither is certified). The 6300 receiver in fact has a DLNA certificate on DLNA.org and happily connected to TVersity. Hmmmm!
So the auto-calibration is totally cool - it happily picked out the distance of all of my speakers, and set the attenuation, and massive-echoing aside, this system totally powered the 8000 cubic foot volume (plus adjacent kitchen, dining room, etc) to my novice ears.
The dish-network receiver connected ok, though I noticed a video/audio mismatch (I think can be corrected via. 6300 setting) and the Blu-ray player connected ok, again an audio/video timing issue, and also a volume problem that was corrected with a setting on the blu-ray player (pass through HDMI audio).
Shoutcast radio stations came through flawlessly, though the UI throughout is painfully slow (what processor is in this beast?)
I noticed the Bravia-Link (aka HDMI-CEC aka AV-link) doing its magic, e.g. the TV turns on when you push the GUI button on the receiver, or if you take the TV remote and point at TV and do volume up it forwards the command to the receiver. Or if you play a Blu-Ray disc it powers up the TV and sets receiver to right channel. I had seen some early reviews saying the Dish Network VIP-722 would interfere with this, but apparently they have fixed it.
Big disappointment is that if the mp3 CD is put in the Blu-Ray player BDP-350 it doesn't work, even though it works on my motorcycle stereo, on my car, on my sister's car, on my colleagues [...] Emerson. Come on Sony, if I spend over [...]
on your top-of-the-line stuff, the CD written by ITunes should work! But that's a gripe on the Blu-Ray player, not the item I'm reviewing! Through DLNA and TVersity, audio files played fine (and they will also play through a USB memory device on TV by the way).
I haven't spent much time with TVersity, will report back and update this as I do.

I Love the processor. I just wish I knew how to use it better. I learn more about it everyday. I used this with 2 amplifiers. 1 for the sub and the other for a four channel amp to my door speakers. This works as a processor even for an aftermarket stereo. This is usually used as an integration system for stock stereos to get an aftermarket sound. Love it considering the local stereo shop was asking 500 for theirs. Got it on amazon for around 260.

MartinLogan Depth i High-Performance Triple 8-Inch Servo-Control Subwoofer (Single, Dark Cherry) Review

MartinLogan Depth i High-Performance Triple 8-Inch Servo-Control Subwoofer (Single, Dark Cherry)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Partnering a subwoofer with a pair of Martin-Logan reQuests is a difficult venture. The reQuests already have significant low end response down to 30Hz. The problem becomes apparent upon using just the pair of speakers for 5.1 soundtracks or for audio sources that have music that can truly utilize the low end of the spectrum. For the 5.1 soundtracks, there's no easy way of getting the .1 output directly to the main pair without making a mess of the more essential qualities of the audio. The Depth i brings the response down to 20Hz without any difficulties. It can be wired simultaneously for both your digital .1 subwoofer output and for reproducing just the low end of the spectrum on 2 channel sources. To do that, you can run the patch cord for the digital .1 output directly to the appropriate input on the sub while also running a pair of cables for the RCA line level input. You may wish to ensure that your preamp can handle this easily or that you have the appropriate cables in advance.
The placement for the sub, which is a very nice looking and very heavy unit, is typically behind one of the front speakers. The sub's crossover frequency is easily adjusted as is its volume, so you can not only adjust it appropriately for your current speakers but can set it so that those in the family who don't appreciate bass are comfortable. This can be set up so that it makes your chair vibrate with the explosions or so that it adds a balanced extension of your system's overall frequency response down another few notches.
Setup was easy although you need two people to unpack and move the unit into position. You can leave the speaker switched on, in which case it goes into standby mode when no signal is being received, or can turn it on and off as desired. MartinLogan's customer service and online support has always been excellent. The manual is well written and straightforward.

Depth i deploys the full array of MartinLogan's advanced subwoofer technologies to achieve deep, rich, satisfying bass while preserving electrostatic-like accuracy and detail. Its TriLinear BalancedForce alignment, advanced low-distortion switching amplifier, and sophisticated triple-servo control systems extract the very best possible performance from Depth i's high-resolution 8-inch aluminum-cone drivers. TriLinear BalancedForce places the subwoofer's three drivers precisely 120 degrees apart from each other in the cabinet. Their reaction force vectors meet at the center and exactly cancel, virtually eliminating cabinet resonance and vibration. Gone with them are the cabinet-radiation coloration and bass blur that afflict even the best conventional subwoofers. The triple-servo system, meanwhile, ensures that the output from the drivers themselves - the output we want - is always an absolutely faithful replica of the audio input signal. Depth i blends easily into any high-performance stereo music or multi-channel home theater system. In fact, with its easily accessible top-mounted controls and separately configurable LFE and two-channel inputs, Depth i's performance can be independently optimized for home-theater and stereo operation in the same system.

KEF HTB2BL (SE) Powered Subwoofer (Black) Review

KEF HTB2BL (SE) Powered Subwoofer (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It figures that a European company would develop a subwoofer like this. Compact and nice/interesting looking - things that fit in nicely with the European mindset... I'm married to one. One speaker that my wife doesn't mind having in plain sight. And it's output is tight, fast and accurate (unlike some other small subs from "reputable" manufacturers... like Sunfire, which output a lot of sound, but that's about all you can say. Give me speed and accuracy first, and super-low-end last). It may not play as loud or low as larger subs, but it does really add to satellite speakers, and has done a nice job for me, where I have it augmenting a 12" sub (Triad Silver InRoom).
Some minor issues are the lack of a gain control on it - you'll need to set its level via your AV receiver. It does have a switch that allows you to select either 0dB boost, +3dB or +6dB, which does help.
Besides that, there is a 0 or 180 degree phase switch, and a switch that selects either auto- or always-on. The auto-on works great for me; after I shut off the system, a couple minutes later, the sub turns off.
Overall, I'm happy with this sub. It definitely adds low-end richness to soundtracks and music. And the fact that it's small and nice looking is a big plus.

Yo people..Dont get so bent out of shape. You are paying for the diamond glass. The speakers are only $119.00 per pair. I bought a pair of these beauties for my gameroom, and they certainly looked great, but unfortunately they didn't sound any better than my old Cerwin Vega speakers so I sent them back..The company called and gave me a hard time, but eventually I got my monies back. I am an investment banker who has been very lucky with investments and also an audiophile, so I wanted to buy something special just to say that I could actually afford something so outrageously expensive. Again, the speakers sound good, but certainly not worth the price (MY OPINION)..The diamond glass certainly looks great though..

Mirage MM-8 miniature High-Performance Subwoofer (Black) Review

Mirage MM-8 miniature High-Performance Subwoofer (Black)

When it arrived all small, shiny and boomy I was ecstatic. It sounded like a million bucks and it is SMALL!! And BOOMY! And did I mention how small it is?
Things were great.
But now, a mere 4 months later, I am filing for warranty work.
It now has a loud, crackly punch coming from it when any moderate amount of bass passes through it.
I thought maybe the LFE signal was distorted, but I played some blu-rays that never had problems in the past at loud, but not by any means obnoxious, levels and it was still there.
I expected better from Mirage/Klipsch than 4 months of less than average use.
And now I have to fight the warranty process.
Look elsewhere--I wish I did.

Aktimate Mini White 2-way Active Speaker System with iPod Dock Review

Aktimate Mini White 2-way Active Speaker System with iPod Dock

I've had a pair of these for about 6 months now, and am thinking about selling them. With the units on, and no music playing (and without the RCAs connected), there is quite a noticeable hiss. They even pick up a radio station which I can hear through the hiss. I had them looked at by the EPOZ guys (I live near them), and they couldn't offer any explanation or fix. Apparently this is fairly common with powered speakers, but I don't know how people put up with it. I often like to listen to quiet ambient music, which I simply can't do with these speakers. Thumping house music at loud volume however sounds great - good bass and high end. They look pretty good on my desk too. Going back to an amp setup.

Boston Acoustics Classic Series CPS12Wi Wireless Ready Powered Woofer (Cherry) Review

Boston Acoustics Classic Series CPS12Wi Wireless Ready Powered Woofer (Cherry)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my 1st ever home audio sub so I will have to compare it to my car sub and my dads home sub. My car sub is a 12" MTX on 380 Watts in a sealed box in the trunk. My dad's home sub is a Vandersteen 2WQ assisting a pair of expensive Talons. Compared to the MTX the CPS12Wi is ported and plays lower notes well (20-30hz) that the MTX struggles with. It is also more musical less bone jarring.
Compared to the Vandersteen it's crossed over at a high frequency (my choice based on my setup) and therefore you can guess where it is in the room when blindfolded. It's actually louder than the $1000++ vanderdstien but that's probably due to the higher x-over and also the port. Not to mention the 2WQ was never intended to be loud at all as far as I can tell.
If you are looking for something bone jarring, this is not your sub. However, for authoritative and musical ultra lows, it's great. So on the MTX to Vandersteen scale, it's closer to the Vandersteen.
I dont plan on using WiFi. I picked this sub because it was on sale for under $300 at amazon. I'm very pleased, no regrets.
Couple tips: 1. Place sub in corner of room, it makes a difference. 2. Use a RCA splitter to plug in both left and right inputs. This will basically give you a better starting point when you tune the volume level because you will start at double volume. In my case my L/R speaker have high sensitivity so without the splitter I wasn't able to set the volume where I wanted it. This is a negative.
My favorite test is playing "the longships" by Enya. The drum is so low you visualize it as having a 14ft diameter. My MTX sucks at this song compared to the CPS12wi. Maybe it just wont work right in a car or maybe it requires a ported sub.
Finally, just a thought, I used a tone generator to test this thing at 20hz. Definitely audible. It's rated at 25hz because that's where you start to lose significant loudness. I tested it at 16hz and still heard it, only because it was making something else vibrate in the room. That 16hz is not audible by humans.
UPDATE 3/28
I've had some more time with this unit and have decided the port diameter is too small. During intense low frequency movie scenes you can hear a high pitched wooshing sound in the port. For this price range and box size that is totally normal. However, it can be avoided with a larger port (which also requires a larger box). I did compare the unit side by side to a much larger sub with 4 ports of the same diameter. It wasn't really a fair comparison because the other unit was a 15" driver in a 13cf box weighing 190lbs.
