I won't claim to be an audiophile or musically inclined but I just know a good sound from a mediocre one. Ok, so that's not raising the stature of this review at all. But if you want just a humble and honest opinion I would say this is one. All the other reviews I've seen of the ML's are those of the MLT-2's, what I bought and will be raving about are the MLT-1's.
Bought the set for just $299 when it went on sale at Frys, which promptly put it back to its original price of $799 after the sale. So that bargain price alone, although was a great start, it also made this set a suspicious one for me. But when I hooked its speakers up to my newly purchased Yamaha RXV665, man, was I blown away by that delightful sound coming from those small speakers!... "Delightful" is the only word I could come up with now so I'm probably not giving it justice. Granted the speakers I replaced were my 20 year old JBL's, which probably were so-so to begin with, but what I heard from the MLT-1's were just pure music to the ears in more ways than one - for even the dialogue from the set top cable box (Dishnetwk) was nicer to the ears than when I was hearing it from the other speakers including the TV's (Samsung UNC8000 55").
Anyways, let me just list here my general, non technical impressions of these speakers:
1. The sound that comes out does not deafen you even when volume is raised very high. The metaphor I have for the sound that comes from them is that it seems to come to you in a big "soap bubble" that when it "hits" you and "bursts" it gives you a gentle, refreshing drizzle to your face on a hot summer afternoon.
2. The subwoofer produces a soft but confident boom. Perhaps most subwoofers do the softie booms but I like what comes out of the MLT-1's SW. I like the fact that the SW automatically turns on when the amp delivers the signals. No more having to go do a manual switching off.
3. Back to the "bubble" description, I realize that's the visual I get when I'm listening from my kitchen, which is right next to the family room where I have the MLT-1's. When I position myself in the family room I feel like being inside the sound bubble, the sound is a bit different but I still feel its warmth and fullness, it's still just as awesome! (I am aware that my lack of articulateness is limiting the value of this review but I think the adjectives I have used here "delightful", "awesome", "warmth", "fullness" are quite appropriate to the sound that these speakers produce.)Finally, I would surmise a guess that all those good reviews for the MLT-2's are likely applicable to the MLT-1's as well. Check out those reviews.
Hope this helps.
