Marantz PM8003 Integrated Amplifier Review

I bought this about six months ago, and I haven't regretted this purchase! I only do two-channel even with video, and use this to drive B&W 683 loudspeakers. I was unsatisfied with my Denon 2807 AV receiver, so I began auditioning integrated amps. WOW. At 70 watts/channel, this baby rocks! It blows away the Denon which had 110 per channel, and sounds much better while doing it. It controls the B&W speakers like a much larger amp. The PM8003 has excellent detail, clarity, and slam. I can't distress this amp, no matter what I play! And movie soundtracks have so much impact, I question the need for a subwoofer. In my cabinet, the Denon receiver ran rather hot, but this Marantz runs quite cool. Compare this unit to amps rated at 100-125 watts per channel, and you will appreciate how underrated this amp is. You will enjoy this little integrated amp!

I bought this amp as a refurbished unit and it looks and performs like a brand new one. I've got it powering a 10 inch alpine type R in a ported box in my car and I haven't been able to bog it, or my sub down yet. They just keep going and going. It's quite a bit smaller than the last kenwood I had, but it doesn't lack anything in performace. Still need to adjust some of the filters on it for high and low pass, but I'm more than pleased with the product. I also have the kenwood bass boost control unit to give my sound a little more punch at various frequencies.

Wireless Desktop/Vehicle Cellular Amplifier Kit Review

Wireless Desktop/Vehicle Cellular Amplifier Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a fish camp in an area that has weak cellular coverage. Calls would be dropped almost 100% of the time as there was just enough of a signal to make the call and get connected. However, as soon has you move or change directions the call would drop. I installed this in my truck with a magnet mount antenna on the top of the truck and flat interior antenna on the center armrest in the cab. When I need the extra coverage I turn it on and within a couple minutes I go from one bar to three to four.
To get the best performance from an amplifier you really have to follow the installation instructions and get good separation from your antennas.

I bought the amp because of needing signal boost inside a mobile home. It has definitely made a big difference in my phone signal in my home. Before receiving the amp my calls were constantly being dropped or I was not receiving calls or texts at all in my home. I am very please with my amp. The service was also great from Wilson Electronics.

WOW! This unit is amazing. My wife and I are full-time travelers. We often find ourselves in locations off the beaten path where we're without cell phone coverage and internet access. Well those days are now long gone. Since we've installed this unit, we have NEVER been without coverage for our cell phone or air card. Installation was easy and best of all, it works with both our cell phone and air card with our Verizon service. The improvement in signal strength is obvious by merely comparing signal strength bars. In our experience, when our phone has only 1 or 2 bars without the booster, it shows at least 3 bars and most frequently 4 bars. We bought an attachment that is basically a credit card size pad with a cable that connects to the booster. The pad sticks to either the phone or air card during use and is easily transferred from one to the other. If you are full-time traveler and wish to preserve connection to family and friends regardless of where you are, the Wilson amplifier and antenna is a great way to do it.

When my Adcom GFA-545 died, I was shocked to see the prices for the new Adcom amps. I decided to take a chance on the AMP3 and am very satisfied with the sound and apparent quality of the AMP3. I had a simple question for tech support and was able to reach them by phone with no wait. So far, so good. I just hope it last 15 years like my Adcom. I would then give it 5 stars.

The Amp 3 stereo power amplifier from AudioSource is a powerful addition to your home audio system and home theater. A simple design houses a high-end, high-power amplifier that is easy to set up and use. AudioSource amplifiers deliver accurate, rich sound, combining high sound-pressure levels and a clear reproduction of even the most subtle details of sound.
The powerful Amp 3 provides up to 150 watts per channel in stereo mode and up to 400 watts in mono. Clean, pure sound is a hallmark of the amplifier with total harmonic distortion of less than 0.04%. In the heart of the amp, the torodial power transformer generates a big sound while reducing distortion by shielding the sound from stray magnetic fields. A peak limiter circuit provides further protection against distortion in your speakers at high volumes. Discrete output devices ensure pure signal fidelity from all sources.
The Amp 3's auto-on feature powers up the amplifier whenever an input signal from an audio source is detected. The unit will shut down automatically when no signal is present. A manual power switch can also be used.
There are two pairs of speaker outputs on the Amp 3. Both outputs can be used simultaneously, as long as the combined impedance does not drop below 2 ohms. With the Amp 3, you can control the volume directly on the unit, or by adjusting the signal source component (such as your receiver, preamp, etc.) Separate channel level controls allow for individual adjustment.

I originally purchased the Yamaha YST-SW215 8" Powered Subwoofer. I was underwhelmed by the performance and the cheap construction. However, at $99, I got what I paid for.
I returned it and began looking for other options. I looked at the JBL and at first dismissed purchasing it because it was out of my price range ($200 and under).
I went to BestBuy to see/hear it ($299). Hearing any audio equipment at a store will not compare to your home environment, so saying that it sounded good at the store may not yield the same results at home. I mainly wanted to see the build and quality of the materials. I was very impressed-especially knowing I was going to purchase elsewhere for a better price. It is well worth the $299.
When visiting the Amazon site, I clicked the new and used offers, I found several under $180. Usually, this raises a red flag- gray market products etc. Also, many underprice and regain profit when adding shipping.
I purchased this from Bestpriceaudiovideo.com for $169 with free shipping and no tax. I was not disappointed. The order was processed when they said it would be and came well-packed. This was no after market sub.
I would be surprised if you can find a better sub for the price. It can rattle the walls if you want or can simply add fuller sound to music if that's what you like. and for only $60 or so more than the Yamaha, it was well worth it.

So i bought this deck awhile back, like last year, anyway its a great deck, you can hook RCA's up or wires for your speakers right out the back of the deck. anyway, its a really great deck, everything worked, and everything is very impressive, screen is huge, and fits perfectly in my car. Now ive read some other reviews and people are complaining that the DVD player and SD card reader dont work. TO THOSE PEOPLE< READ THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!. If you want that to work you have to go into the harness of the radio and install and ground the BLACK WIRE, to the ground, this wire is suppose to be installed to the handbreak so when it is pulled you can watch movies (its a safety option) you can by pass it by grounding it out. i really hate that this deck is very impressive but is getting horrible reveiws becuase of the dvd option, i will assure that the deck will work and be a perfect addition to your car. Message me with any questions, i could install these things for a living haha.

Power Acoustik's going huge with this receiver--the single-DIN unit boasts an 8.3-inch flip-up screen. Yes, you read that right: The company developed a new ultra-slim transport (only half an inch) and rotational mechanism to give you the big picture. It comes with two cages that will allow for hooded dash installs or a flusher install where no hooded dash exists. Enjoy a superb picture with 800 x 480 resolution, playback of your favorite media, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth technology, and then some. You can also add the optional NaviBox-1 for full NAVTEQ navigation.

Huge 8.3-Inch Screen The PTID-8310NRB boasts an 8.3-inch in-dash screen, for uncompromising entertainment. The motorized, LED-backlit LCD telescopes forward and backward with preset angles. It offers 800 x 480 pixel resolution with a 400 NIT brightness rating, for a picture to rival anything else out there. It's also a touchscreen, for quick and easy navigation of system features.
When not in use, the screen tucks safely away into the receiver, thanks to Power Acoustik's unique rotating mechanism. A standard DOT display picks up the slack when you're not using it.
Integrated Bluetooth Make hands-free calls or stream music with integrated Bluetooth technology. The PTID-8310NRB works with most Bluetooth-enabled cell phones, and it includes a built-in microphone.
A2DP profile support means you can stream audio from compatible devices directly to your stereo, with no cable needed.
Enjoy Your Media Play back your favorite discs with support for DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, and VCD formats. You can also enjoy DivX and MP4 video, along with MP3/WMA audio (from disc, SD card, or USB devices).
Dial in the sound with custom or preset EQ settings, along with audio staging controls.
Prefer the radio? The PTID-8310NRB features an AM/FM radio with 18 FM and 12 AM presets, for instant recall of your favorite stations.
50W x 4 MOSFET Amplifier The built-in 50W x 4 amp provides plenty of output to start with; but for those who want a little more system, three sets of 4V preamp outputs (front, rear, sub) are included. Add some external amps for some chassis-shaking power.
Front-Panel Inputs You get plenty of input options with this receiver. Put your favorite media on SD cards or a USB thumb drive, and plug right into the slot/port on the front of the device.
There's also a standard 3.5-mm auxiliary input, so no matter what your device, chances are you can connect it.
Navigation-Ready Just add the optional NaviBox-1 (sold separately), and you'll have a full-featured NAVTEQ navigation system at your fingertips. Get realistic intersection views, turn-by-turn instructions, 2D and 3D map viewing, and plenty more.
Remote Included Control unit functions with the provided full-featured remote.

Audiophile Products Fubar IV Plus - Silver USB DAC / Headphone Amplifier Review

Audiophile Products Fubar IV Plus - Silver USB DAC / Headphone Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good:
The Fubar IV Plus's DAC is spectacular. I love the sound out of the RCA jacks. All my favorite songs sound like they have new parts for me to enjoy, and that's the highest praise that I can give to any audio product. This makes my computer audio sound wonderful.
The bad:
The isolation between the headphone amplifier and the internal digital processing circuitry is laughably bad. This manifests in a high frequency hiss that I find to be particularly distracting when listening to solo piano or other uncluttered music.
The headphone jack on this product is fairly low noise until you attach it to a digital source (you know, the obscure "using the device" thing), but then the hiss kicks in. This noise is present at all volume levels, but it seems to get substantially louder once you get past about half-volume. Even stranger, this isn't a new problem with the Fubar IV Plus; I've seen reviews of the prior three generations of this product that describe this same issue.
In response to another comment here: this doesn't appear to be an issue of noise intrusion through the power system, so it seems unlikely that the dedicated super-spiffy power box add-on will do anything to help the noise.
This noise is not present through the RCA output jacks, or at least the noise is reduced to the point where I don't notice it anymore. One proviso in this case: keep the volume knob set low... It seems that some noise still comes through if you set the volume control high (this volume knob does not adjust the level through the RCA jacks, so there's no reason to have the level anywhere but all the way down).
I've taken the audio from the stereo RCA outputs and fed it into a separate headphone amp. This isn't nearly as convenient as using the built-in headphone amp, but it sounds much better.
Again, to restate: I love the DAC in this device, it sounds wonderful. The headphone amp, not so much.

Onkyo TX-NR3008 9.2-Channel Network Home Theater Receiver Review

Onkyo TX-NR3008 9.2-Channel Network Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a cross post of my review on AVSforums, a discussion thread is also over there about this AVR and my experiences thus far. Also, there are some pics of my install and of the OSD for this device (which I could not find anywhere), including the HDMI overlay:
[...]Unfortunately, the first one I purchased from Amazon (warehouse deals) was bad, it has a hiss/click in the 2 front speakers. They were great doing the return, and sent me another one that; so far, has been perfect..
To begin, here's a list of my gear:
Epson 8500
Axiom M60v2, VP150, and QS8s for surround, surround backs (7 channel)
Epik Castle subwoofer
Dedicated theater, ~20X17
Room treatments (NO bass trapping, just for highs)
HTPC w/5500 series video card (HD bitstreaming)I'm coming from a Pioneer 1018, a ~500 dollar AVR that's ~2-3 years old. This is a good AVR, and I've been happy with it. The biggest reasons for my upgrade is to get OSD (all my gear is behind me in a closet; I can't see what mode/volume/etc I'm in on the Pioneer on screen, and it's driving me nuts), better room correction, and dual sub balancing EQ correction. The Pioneer also supported HD sound, so that's consistent between the systems; as well as the speakers (everything is the same).
First off, for those who have been reading the 3008/5008 thread, I'm on my second 3008; the first one sent had a "hum/buzz" in the front two speakers (L/R). So my initial impression was "how about some QC!". 2nd AVR seems fine so far, the buzz/hum is gone..
As soon as I got the AVR I upgraded the firmware to the most recent available. I did it once via USB, and once via network. Both times it took a long time to finish (30+ minutes), but went without a hitch. As such, I can't comment on the "old" firmware or what the upgrades "fixed".
After running the FW updates, I then ran through Audessey. Easy process, took about 1-1.5 hours to measure 8 positions and calculate the results. The calculation took much longer than I expected (10 minutes or so), on the Pioneer the room calculation was much faster (but much less sophisticated). As you can see, I mounted the Audessey mic on my photography rig using some blue painters tape. I think that the tape adds a nice "color" and "transparency" to the final EQ calculations.
Anyway.. On to listening. I setup the default audio modes, a feature I didn't know I wanted, but man, I couldn't live without it now. For those who don't know, it allows you to select the default mode for different types of audio; stereo is output as 2.1, TrueHD is output at 7.1 in THX Cinema mode, etc. Once you set this, all the switching between modes is fully automated. Really nice when you have one source (HTPC) that can play tons of different types of audio/video files! I set stereo to 2.1 and the HD audio codecs to 7.1 THX Cinema mode.
First thing I played was music. Bass was significantly/dramatically better (depending on the source material). From the main listening position, it was tight, clear, and very easy to listen to. Also, stereo separation was better; there's a much higher "sense of space" with the new AVR. Not sure how to explain it, but I'm very happy with the results. Set the sub volume a little higher (apparently I'm a bass head, I like it louder than reference) but that was my only listening tweak. Music was much "easier" to listen to; probably because some of the ringing or smearing is being processed out by the room correction software in the 3008. Regardless, very happy with the music results!
On to video.. I've watched a few movies since the install (I haven't slept very much), and all of them were "improved" to "much improved" over the Pioneer. Again, the bass is SO much better that it's really hard to say if that's causing everything else to "sound better" too. The surrounds are much more noticeable (not in a bad way, just more ambient sound), and the system sounds better "blended" than it did with the 1018. I'm in love with the immediate OSD, for folks with gear in a closet (or out of sight) it's exactly what the doctor ordered! I haven't been through all the listening modes yet; I'm stuck on THX Cinema because I like the results so much! Overall, again, very happy with the video results.
General stuff.. This thing runs MUCH hotter than my Pioneer did (driving the same speakers and at the same volumes). It's not "dangerous" hot (IMHO), but much, much hotter than it's predecessor, that's for sure. Also, this thing weighs a TON compared to the Pioneer.. A TON! It's hard to move with one person (you can do it, but don't put in into a glass rack (which is what I have) without help!). The rear of this device is laid out really nicely! I'm very happy with it; easy to connect the speakers (takes bananas securely) and the source component(s). Audessey was easy to run, and correctly detected all my speakers and room layout both times.
The OSD (overlay and full menu) is pretty snappy (it could be better), much faster and nicer to look at the the older Pioneer. However, it's nothing "great", it's still mostly text; it get's the job done, but isn't going to wow you with graphics (I'd much prefer simple and fast over pretty and slow, so this works well for me).
AVR seems to be able to handle high volume just fine; I played some music at 5 under reference and it kept right up. Didn't hear any clipping or distortion; but, to be honest, my Pioneer was just as good at this volume and didn't get as hot..

This is a real workhorse of an amplifier. I've had one in the studio that I bought used over 10 years ago, and I've never had any complaints.
But that must be a misprint about the $2,200 price tag.
You'd be crazy to spend over $200 for one, and you'd likely get one for closer to $100 if you shop around.

I have this amp hooked up in my car to two Kenwood Subs that run 400 watts RMS apiece (4ohms), this amp easily lives up to the lofty Planet Audio standards, and is very easy to configure yourself. If you are looking for quality, this monoblock is it. This is by far a product that lives up to its specs. I would recommend getting 4 gauge cable to hook it up to the battery with, as anything smaller will cause a voltage drop that won't sound good at all. Make sure your alt can handle the power this amp requires, if you have a smaller car, you may need to think about an upgrade if you haven't already. It will run fine with stock, but if you don't want your lights to dim at night you'll need to think about it. It's just about impossible to go wrong with this brand of amp, you'll not find a better product on the market.
This is very deserving of five stars and I'd give it more if I could.
