HeadRoom Micro Amp Review

HeadRoom Micro Amp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the headroom dac and amp since about a year and love it. I run AKG-701s, Sennheiser 650s and Denon 5000s with it. I use it with the matching Micro DAC.
Just recently, I stuck both the amp and the dac directly into the wall socket (and later, into a Wiremold ($60) powerstrip that does not have any filtering, spike control etc.). It's like I have a totally different product. Unconditional 5 stars. Just don't starve the poor thing of electricity.

Marantz SR4002 - AV receiver - 7.1 channel - black Review

Marantz SR4002 - AV receiver - 7.1 channel - black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this as a replacement for a NAD T742 that was plagued by quality issues. I will base me review as compared to the NAD.
The Marantz is much more feature rich. HDMI and Component video switching is something the NAD lacked. It has multiple surround modes that I will never use, but I'm sure someone might like them. The auto-setup feature took a few tries, but when it completed successfully everything looked, and sounded great.
For movies, I prefer the Marantz over the NAD. DTS tracks were awesome. Dialog was much more clear and stood out from the rest of the track well.
For music, I prefer the NAD. Like I mentioned earlier, I don't use the surround modes. So music was tested in stereo only. The Marantz was more clear, especially at low volume. However, the NAD gave a more live feel to the music and seemed to fill not only the room, but the whole house much better.
Overall, for the price, the Marantz is a supurb, feature rich, AV receiver. What it lacks in stereo reproduction it more than makes up for in it's surround sound performance.

Pioneer Elite SC-07 - AV network receiver - 7.1 channel Review

Pioneer Elite SC-07 - AV network receiver - 7.1 channel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased the Pioneer Elite SC-07 receiver. It replaced my old Elite VSX-72TXV receiver. Along with the receiver, I purchased the Polk RTi A7 front speakers, CSi A6 center channel, FXi A4 surrounds and DSW Pro 500 subwoofer. I have the Kuro Elite PRO-111FD display to compliment the set up. The result is just breath taking sight and sound.
When you first turn on the receiver without any calibration, you can hear and feel the raw power. After the full automated calibration and some manual minor fine tunings, I couldn't be happier. The first thing you'll notice is the clean, powerful yet natural sound output the receiver has to offer. If you're not into manual calibration, let the receiver do the full auto calibration. That'll make a world of difference. All of the video components are connected via HDMI, so I can't really comment on the performance of the Faroudja upconverting chipset. Just like the former Elite receivers, SC-07 comes with ipod connection (a USB port instead of a cable this time around). The GUI is much easier to use compared to Denon receivers. I like the fact that the menus are straight forward enough to navigate through the settings easily without referring to the manual every single time.
Initially, I was going to wait for SC-27 to come out. Then again, the major difference between the two are color GUI with the ability to show the album art work on the ipod and a different upconverting chip. Personally, I don't care about the extra bells and whistles. Amazon (3rd party retailers) probably have the best pricing I've seen so far. I have no regrets and I'm looking forward to enjoying it for quite some time.

Sony KV-32FV15 32" Wega Trinitron TV Review

Sony KV-32FV15 32 Wega Trinitron TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The wega is definately a best buy. You could spend thousands more for hdtv but you won't be able to use it for five yrs. I purchased my wega and can't believe the picture it delivers with my DVD and DSS. The double tuner feature is brilliant. Its almost like having two tv's. Compare for yourself!

Click Here to see more reviews about: Sony KV-32FV15 32" Wega Trinitron TV

Sony's latest innovation in television is the WEGA FD Trinitron picture tube, which is 11 times flatter than any CRT to precede it. This new technology ensures that you'll get a superior picture performance on this 32-inch TV, which is packed with advanced features. This unit uses a 3-line digital comb filter that analyzes three TV scanning lines at a time, which results in high resolution, pure colors, and minimum flecks of "noise." Sony has also included velocity modulation scanning, which actually varies the scanning beam speed to render picture transitions accurately. There is also vertical aperture compensation, which sharpens the picture definition and edge detail on the vertical plane, producing sharp horizontal edges.
Sony also delivers strong stereo sound performance on this unit. Auto SRS sound enhancement creates a vivid stereo image, using the principles of human hearing to make the sound appear to come from widely separated speakers. This TV comes with dynamic acoustic chamber speakers, which develop rich, satisfying sound with pinpoint stereo imaging. Sony's tapered enclosures are folded around the back of the picture tube, maximizing output while minimizing bulk. In addition, Sony has included Steady Sound automatic volume control with BBE, which equalizes the volume levels so that there is consistency between programs and commercials.
Want to catch two programs at once? This model comes with a dual-tuner picture-in-picture feature. Another great feature is "Favorite Preview," which allows you to preview five favorite channels without having to leave the current program you are watching. Similarly, the "Favorite Channel" feature allows you to instantly switch among your five favorite channels.
Concerned parents will appreciate the V-chip parental control feature, which allows parents to lock out programming unsuitable for younger viewers. A unique feature is "Freeze Memo," which allows you to freeze what's on-screen--be it a Web site address or phone number--so you can write it down.
For the home theater enthusiast, this unit is equipped with the S-Link interface control, which creates a system that simplifies operation and anticipates your needs when connected to a Sony audio-video receiver. This unit also has component video inputs for picture quality that conventional video and S-video inputs can't match. The Sony WEGA uses three separate connectors for black-and-white (Y), blue color difference (Pb) and red color difference (Pr).

Harman Kardon AVR 235 7.1-Channel Audio/Video Surround Receiver Review

Harman Kardon AVR 235 7.1-Channel Audio/Video Surround Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second 7.1 channel surround receiver. I also own a Yamaha flagship THX 110W/ch receiver, the RX-V1400. The Yamaha has more sound processing options, but sometimes less is more. Both are high current amps and both have the self-calibrating feature (YPAO on the Yamaha and EzSet on the Harman Kardon). The Yamaha is in a 23'x20' upstairs media room and the AVR235 is in a 30'x25' open downstairs living area. Both of the amps produce extremely clean sound, both have power to spare (even though the AVR235 is rated considerably less and is in a larger space), and both have very high build quality. The Yamaha is more suited to a micro-managing audiophile and the Harman Kardon is more of a plug and play style receiver. The Yamaha has more knobs and options, but it also requires more attention. On the Yamaha unit, you have to manually enable Dolby Digital EX/DTS ES processing every time you turn the unit on even though in the setup it knows you have a full 7.1 speaker package. I guess it assumes that my rear surrounds are intended to be decorative. Basically, it is dumb and assumes that you know it is dumb and that you will tell it what you want it to do. Except for the parametric EQ, which is smart, except it doesn't necessarily sound great and is best that it is defeated in favor of the manual EQ. It took me approximately three weeks of tweaking to get the sound like I wanted. The Harman Kardon on the other hand is very user friendly. It has an on-screen display (my only gripe is that you must use this) for configuring the many inputs and outputs. It makes very logical assumptions. If you have seven speakers and a subwoofer, it assumes that you want to listen to Dolby Digital material using all of those speakers (EX); however, if you prefer 5.1 or even stereo from your Dolby Digital you can override the 7.1 selection. There are no hidden EQs or too much bloated software that may overprocess the signal and actually degrade the quality in the end. The AVR235 still has the bass and treble controls in the form of knobs on the front of the unit, could it be any simpler. It took me approximately thirty minutes to get the Harman Kardon to sound like I wanted it to sound. The Harman Kardon simply adheres to the principles of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid). It has everything you may need (front optical and coaxial digital inputs, 7.1ch pre-amp input, etc.), but lacks all of the things that you probably don't need that only get in the way. It is an efficiently engineered marvel whose sound quality rivals and probably even exceeds any other brands flagship receiver lines (yes... even you Marantz, Denon, and others) in the under 2k category. It may seem expensive to some, but in its feature/function class it is less than half of the price of most and is probably almost twice as good. Don't even question the power rating vs. other receivers because the power may be rated less on the Harman, but the unit has a clean sound over the entire power range. Unlike other receivers that have high power rating, and very little signal clarity once truly pushed to the limit. Remember it is not about pure wattage into an 8 ohm load (because a speakers impedance is actually dynamic across a range of frequencies since a speaker is inductive), but rather it is about how much current the amplifier can supply that contributes to what you hear. You have to ask yourself this question: Do you really want a concert hall DSP setting that overprocesses a perfectly good signal to make it sound like a cellphone ringtone being emitted from the bottom of a deep well? If you do, then this is not the receiver for you. If you want the best sound possible at a very good price, then look no further. It may also be nice to know that you will be supporting a U.S. based tech company.

Harman Kardon's most affordable 7.1-channel audio/video surround receiver, the AVR 235, offers high-quality baseline features from the company's acclaimed AVR series receivers. The component delivers near-universal surround-format compatibility, and it's engineered for terrific sonic performance. The AVR 235 features a discrete-output amplifier that pumps seven channels of high-current (+/-35 amps), ultrawide-bandwidth power: 7 x 50 watts into 8 ohms, 20 to 20,000 Hz with less than 0.07 percent THD. Furthermore, the receiver uses state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters and a high-power Cirrus 32-bit DSP processor.
The AVR 235's cutting-edge technologies also include triple-crossover bass management, automatic digital input polling, and A/V sync delay. An EzSet remote control provides automatic speaker-level calibration.
Surround sound features include Dolby Virtual Speaker, Dolby Headphone processing, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx processing (which provides an expansive, full-range 7.1-channel program from any stereo or 5.1-channel source). The receiver handles all other popular formats (including Dolby Digital EX and Dolby Digital 5.1), all standard DTS modes (including 6.1 DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS Neo:6, Cinema 6.1/5.1, and Music 6.1/5.1), and even the latest DTS 96/24 high-resolution audio technology. You also get Harman's proprietary Logic 7 audio for enhanced multichannel reproduction from both matrix-encoded and 2-channel recordings.
Along with its extensive video connectivity, the receiver offers two wide-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component-video inputs and an array of digital and analog audio connections, including multiple coaxial and optical digital audio inputs and outputs. It sports both analog and digital front-panel inputs, 6-/8-channel direct audio inputs, and 7.1-channel preamp outputs to accommodate a DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, or universal player.
The receiver's triple-crossover bass-management system lets you choose from multiple crossover frequencies for the front L/R, center, surround L/R, and surround back L/R speakers. Most receivers and DVD players have far more limited crossover filtering or none at all. Moreover, you can set different speaker-size configurations for different AVR 235 input sources according to your needs.
With the AVR 235, you get a high-quality FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets and a Listener Preference System that lets you specify a surround mode according to the program source. You can also set speaker-channel levels for each program source and DSP format (for example, the subwoofer level can be set differently for multichannel movie viewing and 2-channel CD music listening).
What's in the Box Receiver, remote control, remote batteries, FM wire/AM loop antennas, warranty information, and a user's manual.

Yamaha RX-N600 Digital Network-Ready Home Theater Receiver Review

Yamaha RX-N600 Digital Network-Ready Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this unit for about 2 weeks now. Sound is as good as anything in this price range. I was coming from a Sony 900 series receiver which was failing. This is my first Yamaha. No other manufacturers had networking capability that didn't cost 3 times as much. Plan on spending most of a day setting this up unless you do that kind of thing often.
Most of my comments center around the networking and USB functions because that's why I bought it, to perhaps eliminate my PC as a music source and go direct from this receiver. We'll, it kinda works... The remote is a bit of a sore spot too as with just a bit more functionality it could have been really good, I could have gotten down to one remote but unfortunately it does not control my cable set top box.
Strengths
*Works great with my Sony VCR, remote controls everything nicely.
*Ipod dock (an extra item purchased separately) seems to work very well. Does not play Ipod video though. Remote controls this too
*Nice remote, after you figure it out it is pretty logical. Controls 3 of my 4 components nicely.
*Internet radio is a real winner, seems to have jillions of stations arranged fairly logically by locale. It would be very difficult to duplicate this on your PC unless you enrolled in a pay service. Its like having a short wave radio.
Near misses
*Remote works great with my Sony DVD player, but make sure you have the side switch on "source" to control play, fast forward, etc. Otherwise you won't be able to move the cursor through DVD menus that appear in the movie menu and make choices on how the movie plays.
*If the Remote could just have a little learning it would be great. You won't know if it will control your unit until you try it out. The list of remote codes that Yamaha supplies is vague, does not list models just a bunch of codes for each manufacturer. You just have to try each one for your manufacturer and see if any work. Hit or miss.
*Net/USB did not work with my Creative Zen Nomad jukebox MP3 player, but did work with a Corsair Memory 2gb flash voyager stick. Go figure. I did notice recently that I can set my Zen to act as a mass storgae unit, and to be fair I have not tried that yet.
Weaknesses
*Network music does not work with Microsoft Media Player 11, only 10. I called Yamaha and they said Media Player 11 was not supported. The N600 does not connect reliably to the media library store, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it errors out or just shows an empty list. Very finicky. Media player 11 is in beta so beware, it will become mainsteam shortly and is not supported. I'm not sure if/how Yamaha will remedy this for me.
*Plays wave, WMA and MP3 but not Itunes
*Crude character interface display for the Net/USB functions, like looking at a pong game on an old IBM CGA PC. About as much functionality as a typical MP3 player, you have to scroll through a page at a time in everything. A pain in the neck if you have a large music collection
*Will not control my Motorola DCT700 Comcast cable box, I tried all the Motorola codes and Yamaha says that's all there is, if they don't work you are outta luck. I am.
*Remote has no learning capability.
*Limited inputs for other components, but enough for what I need
*Documentation is OK but the manual is all there is. There is no FAQ or deeper level of detail on their website or anywhere else that I could find. You have to call Yamaha and you will get a live person, but from what I found from 2 calls is they didn't know any more than the manual.
Conclusion: Would I buy this again? Probably not because the networking is so limited, and that was the main reason I selected this model. If you buy a good receiver and go with an attached high quality PC/soundcard you'd be better off.The Yamaha interface does not come anywhere close to the ease of use and nice presentation you get on any PC media player program. That's like comparing a typewriter to using a PC with Word. The USB feature is nice but could be a lot better if it supported more devices.

This Subwoofer, Amp and Accessory kit is a great value and makes adding some bass to your stock system pretty easy. Of course, you can pay thousands for a subwoofer upgrade, but for the average person there's no reason to. I am far from being a car audio expert, but this system sounds great in my 06 Civic LX Coupe. It may not give the broadest hertz range of any subwoofer, and it may not have the power to blow out your neighbor's windows, but it does add plenty of rich bass to all types of music. For ease of installation, product durability and cost effectiveness, you cannot beat this package.

TEAC CR-H227 Hi-Fi Mini Component System Review

TEAC CR-H227 Hi-Fi Mini Component System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this unit because I am in the US (from the UK) for a couple of years and my Linn Classik doesn't like the US mains voltage or frequency. So it's driving a pair if higher end speakers and has a lot to live up to because I love the Linn.
That said, the sound is very acceptable. Inevitably at the price it lacks a the clarity and depth of a higher end unit, and the CD platter feels lightweight and flimsy, but overall I'm pleased with the purchase.
My only real criticism is around the aesthetics of placing the iPod dock connector on the front the of the unit. Cables aren't pretty and for my money they belong at the back not the front.

Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This receiver is amazing. Setting it up was a breeze. For the nontechnicaly advanced and new comers everything is color coded.
When it came to setting up the speakers I came into a small problem. A slight error on my part. So I hope this advice helps others when setting up the speakers. This receiver comes with a mic that is used to electronicaly test the distance from each speaker to 1 of 6 seating positions one at a time to ensure best sound in all 6 seating positions. When using the set up mic to automatically adjust your speaker setting without having to do it manually make sure the surround speakers from your previous 5.1 plug into the "surround" speaker outputs NOT the "Back surround" speakers. The Back surround is for a 7.1 connection which I still need to upgrade to. If you plug them in the wrong outputs of the receiver you will get an error message while performing the auto speaker set up. This will also cause a problem if you try to manually set up the speakers too.
Aside from that small mishap- sounds great easy set up- self explanatory remote- and the reason I bought it, the THX certification.
The THX certification basically means Onkyo paid Lucas to certify that the equipment meets the THX standards. There are several units on the market that might meet the THX lever of quality but unless products pay for the certification we wont know. To me this shows Onkyo cares about letting you know what you are getting. Some people don't need or want this. If this is you Id suggest looking for a model or 2 down the line. This certification is why this unit has the sticker price it does. This unit also has 5 HDMI inputs to plug all sorts of HDMI items in like Xbox 360, PS3, a Blu Player ETC... and one HDMI out to connect to the TV. I also like the blue backlite volume knob and the green display on the face of the unit. If you connect the HDMI out there is a on screen option that allows you the visibility of reading off your TV set vs. the small display screen on the unit. This is good when setting up the speakers. This unit also reads several of upgrade audio options found on the Blu DVDs.
UPDATE 4/27/09
A few things to add...
when connecting electronics in through the HDMI you can choose how it will be displayed when it leaves the receiver and shown on the screen.
In the options I selected to have all images displayed as 1080i since that is the native resolution picture my current TV supports. So my 360 and blu ray all have their images altered via the receiver to the native resolution my screen can handle over all offering a better image. (only through HDMI)
I can also set each sound format (DTS-HD, DOLBY DIGITAL, Dolby TRU HD, ETC.) to be automatically switched to the sound preset of my choosing offered by the receiver. For example NOT THAT I WOULD EVRE DO THIS but if my Blu Disk had a Dolby TRU HD soundtrack I could set my receiver to send the signal out in mono. Doing so will automatically adjust every Dolby TRU HD soundtrack to mono. This is good if you have a specific sound option avail on the receiver you tent to enjoy most. The amp will make a slight click noise to let you know it switched over and boom you get the sound option you want vs reaching for the remote and searching for the sound option you desire.
Also each input, Game, DVD, Tape, CD etc. has its own memory. So whatever you set for the DVD option will not be automatically applied to the game option. This allows me to pick my favorite sound options for each input.
You can also set the default volume setting when you turn the receiver on. So if you shut it off without turning it down it will not turn on at the last volume but rather the preset desired volume. You can also select the volume of how you "mute". Either 50% of the current volume or completely off. You can also pick any volume level between the lowest and the highest available. If you dont want it plaied too loud you can also select the loudest volume level you desire. This wont allow the volume to raise over that selected volume level.Another feature I liked is the ability to rename inputs. I changed the name of my DVD input to read Blu Ray and my Game input to read XBOX360. Now when I uses the remote to select DVD or game the new names I relabeled show up on the onkyo display.
Over all I am happier and happier with my purchase each day. There are still so many features I have only begun to breech the icecap!

The TX-SR806 occupies a unique position in the Onkyo line-up.We class it as a mid-range A/V receiver. But with its advanced capabilities and THX Ultra2 Plus certification, it`s a worthy challenger for high-end status. Built with high-definition entertainment in mind, the TX-SR806 accommodates up to five HDMITM sources that can handle both 1080p video and studio master-quality surround sound. That`s more high-def sources than you`ll find on any other Onkyo A/V receiver. If that weren`t enough, onboard Faroudja DCDi CinemaTM scales all standard definition sources to 1080p for HDMI output, or to 1080i for component video output. Yamaha TSX-140 Desktop Audio System with iPod Dock (Black) Review

Yamaha TSX-140 Desktop Audio System with iPod Dock (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying, I'm a music producer that
enjoys a variety of different genres of music, so
when shopping for a stereo system I need for
the unit to be able to have all genres of music
sounding good.
I tested the unit by bringing my phone (with mp3s)
to the store I bought it from and played a few
songs. I could tell right away this stereo was
REALLY good. If you like way your music sounds on
a Bose, then you'll like the TSX-140. It really
sounds great, whether you're playing pop, easy-
listening and even sounds great when playing dance
music.
In addition to the unit being able to play audio
via AUX, I also wanted a CD player and USB input.
This box does it all!~ So, I was pretty much sold~
I actually paid more than Amazon is selling it for,
but I'd buy it all over again. To me, it's that good.
But don't take my word for it, go have a listen for
yourself~ I think you'll be shocked at the vividness
of the music you've been listening to all this time!

Energy RC-Micro 5.1 Surround Speaker System (Black) Review

Energy RC-Micro 5.1 Surround Speaker System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Energy RC-Micro 5.1 surround sound speakers pack awesome sound in small and rather stylish design. I am not an audiophile, but I used to have large Infinity speakers that sat on the floor, and these Energy speakers have sound quality far superior to them.
The powered bass rocks the house and can deliver plenty enough bass to fill my 13 x 20 foot room and more. The surround speakers have a uniquely crisp sound so that your home feels as though it was part of the original video and music making experience.
Although these speakers can belt out over 100 watts per channel without a problem, I wouldn't recommend these speakers for the person who wants to listen to their music at deafening levels. The bass can deliver but the unique qualities of the surround speakers are somewhat lost at maximum power . . . or my ears can't adequately process all of the noise.
I find these speakers excellent for surround sound TV and movie watching, excellent for music at normal listening levels (where the neighbors in the next house are not complaining), and good for the times when you want to make neighbors listen to your music.

Jadoo Tv2 Hd 1080p.Watch BOLLYWOOD MOVIES/DRAMA'S ON DEMAND FOR FREE. Review

Jadoo Tv2 Hd 1080p.Watch BOLLYWOOD MOVIES/DRAMA'S ON DEMAND FOR FREE.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've Bought JadooTV 2 (HD) a while ago...and here's what I've noticed so far....
Equipment I'm using with Jadoo TV:
Pakistani/Indian channels are coming in okay. For few channels, quality is not acceptable but for the most channels quality is okay to sharp granted that I have a high tech HD Sony LCD Bravia XBR7 TV and I'm using Onkyo TX SR705 receiver (which converts most streaming videos/meda to 1080p or close to that quality) but still I think some of the channels quality is not acceptable. Resolution is also a little bit issue on a 40" LCD but can be manage in your TV settings and/or Jadoo TV box.
I think for the most part I am happy with JadooTV 2. One thing I have noticed if you connect to your wireless network it is slow and you will see more buffering prompts and if you connect with CAT5 network cable then you might not see that much of buffering messages. I don't have N router. I have a G Linksys wireless router but my Jadoo TV is connected to my router directly (Wired connection).
Price and Connection Speed:
I've bought my JadooTV 2 for $263.00 out the door from eBay and it worked out nicely.
My connection speed is 10Mbps (download speed) and I have a cable connection.
Setup and Customer Service Experience:
I have not had any customer service experience because setup was a piece of cake. All you have to do is register your Jadoo TV on their website and start using it right away. Not a complicated process. It is very easy and user friendly.
Movies and Other Media Quality:
I think Jadoo TV paid more attention to quantity verses quality. Any Bollywood movie you can think of, it has it but again quality is not that great. Few movies are okay quality but not great. I have tested few old releases like 3idiots thinking it is a couple of years old and Jadoo TV might offer an original print but I was disappointed and quality was VCD. New movies are not of a great quality either but it has all the new movies you can think of it like I have mentioned above. I would still be renting it on DVDs I usually don't like pirated movies anyways.
Bottom Line: Great buy but with a twist. You should/must have a high speed Internet connection (around 5-10Mbps download). Channels can go in and out on a daily to hourly basis. One minute you have a channel and the next minute it's gone but over all since they are so focused on quantity, I doubt that you will be bored. For the most part they have great selections of Pakistani/Indian channels.
Hope it helps!

JBL MS-8 MS Series Digital Processor Review

JBL MS-8 MS Series Digital Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
HU: Pioneer 880prs and went active (forget about rear speakers!)
Tweeters: TB 2.5" Ceramic Dome
Mids: TB 3" Bamboo Cone
Lows: ID OEM 6.5" Carbon Fiber Weave Cone
The system in my Element has slowly transformed from a 'simple' system to an MS-8-centric beast, THIS is it!
1.0: It started off with a simple 6.5" ID OEM low and a 1" aluminum dome Tang Band tweeter in the doors (fully sealed and matted doors are crucial!!).
2.0: Then we shifted to a 2.5" ceramic dome Tang Band tweeter in the stock Element tweeter position, was better but definitely NOT the best.
3.0: Then we shifted to a three-way setup with the same lows and tweeters but threw in a set of mids; the tweeters and mids are now sitting in A-pillar mounted pods. Since my head-unit doesn't support active for three-way setups, we had to 'trick' the HU into thinking the tweeters and mids were the same speaker. It sounded amazing but wasn't quite there. Pioneer's latest top-end HU DOES support three-way setups.
4.0: Added the MS-8 and fiddled with calibration about six or seven times; the system simply blows EVERYONE away... This is not an understatement. The imaging is amazing, I'm noticing details in my music that I've never noticed before (mostly with older songs that I've listened to over and over and over again in the past). Imperfections in MP3's are much more apparent and annoying, I'm slowly replacing my collection with high-quality versions (320kbps if possible, may have to move onto loss-less down the road). I'm sure the MS-8 does wonders in a stock system but it also does wonders in a highly modified / custom system like mine.
I'm not sure how audio stores market the product but I hope they do it justice by having an installed system to demo the magical box to potential customers.

Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a lot of research (including Consumer Reports) and settled on this Onkyo as the best compromise between performance and price. I've had it 2 weeks now and am very happy.
The auto setup function works better than a much-more expensive Denon unit I set up for a friend. I used the microphone (included) to measure speaker levels at 3 different locations in the room and the Onkyo did everything else. (It's connected to some older Polk speakers-- they sound so much better through this amp!)
I bought this primarily to process audio from our new BluRay player and the Onkyo does an outstanding job. The sound is better than in most movie theaters! Especially BluRay DTS or HD Master. Wish more movies were recorded in these formats.
We also have our DirecTV HD DVR hooked up to the Onkyo. Audio and video travel through the HDMI Cables, so there's no need to hook up audio separately. Very nice and a feature you will find missing from some more expensive amps.
The amp does get very warm. I put a small fan in the back of the cabinet and that seems to help.
BTW although this is a 5.1 channel amp is DOES support 7.1 if you want the 2 extra rear speakers... you just have to hook it up to your old amp (or any cheap 2-channel amp) and process those 2 channels that way. The 7.1 decoding IS built into this box.
I am not using the "Zone 2" feature but it's very unusual to have that in a receiver in this price range. You can watch a movie in one room while someone else listens to an iPod or FM in another room.
I don't think you can find a better receiver in this price range (and keep an eye on the price-- it's falling!)

Klipsch iFi Speaker System for iPod Review

Klipsch iFi Speaker System for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Klipsch iFi is everything an audiophile could ask for in a self-powered 2.1 $400 dollar system. Compatibility with the iPod is a merely a bonus!
I would like to respond to the previous user's review as it is honorable, but innocently false.
I also own the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and the Klipsch iFi's, but I'm not sure why the previous user had such a difficult time getting his iFi to sound/image better than his Promedias, so let met male this clear: In no way shape or form is the Promedia 2.1 speaker system even remotely close to the quality, finesse and craftsmanship of the Klipsch iFi. The iFi achieves a far higher level of sound clarity and precision, while being more efficient, effective and exquisite. Klipsch tested the iFi to be almost three times louder at the respective maximum SPL while even maintaining a higher discipline of distortion than the Promedias 2.1's. Yes, three times louder with better sound quality. This does not even put them in the same category. That fact alone can whole heartily explain the price difference between them, but allow me to elaborate even further. The iFi's own RSX-3 satellite speakres provide much more impact and fuller and deeper midrange from a stronger, bigger and more capable aluminum driver. The 2.1's sats use a paper cone driver which is smaller and weaker and is held to the baffle with a cheap foam surround. The iFi employs a better, more elaborate titanium horn loaded tweeter that delivers far more sound with greater accuracy than the cheap plastic ones on the 2.1's. The RSX's are far more sophisticated speakers and deliver a sound that is sonically superior and louder than the proimedia satellites. I'm sorry to undermine the previous reviewer, but he is simply wrong.
The subwoofer even divides these two systems further. The 2.1's use a smaller 6.5" woofer with less power in a small enclosure that lacks both depth and proper porting as it emits gobs of port flutter when being pushed hard. The ifi `s subwoofer is a true beast with a full 10Hz lower frequency range, higher SPL, and far less distortion. Please don't get me wrong, the Klispch 2.1's are great speakers and that's exactly why the iFi is also a great system. Because it simply doest just offer the same experience with the addition of an iPod dock for three times the money. It offers you three times the sound quality and, conveniently has an iPod dock. I should also indicate that the remote, while slightly clumsy and small, is the best iPod speaker remote available do to its range.
I would not trade four promedia 2.1 sets for my iFi's
Here are pictures so you can clearly see I have both systems. You can also see the size difference of the subwoofer and the quality difference of the speakers.
Make no mistake, the iFi's trounce the Promeida 2.1's.
(...)
Thanks

Onkyo CSV720S Executive Shelf System with Universal DVD Review

Onkyo CSV720S Executive Shelf System with Universal DVD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own 2 of these because the first one was so good. Besides being able to play anything well (CD, SACD, DVD), the amplifier section generates a clean, cool 23W into 4 ohms, enough to drive the included speakers to very high levels, the baby speakers are fantastically good, the microfibre woofer-midrange really works. Give the speakers 100 hours or more to break in, because they are light, you may want to weight them down. I listen only to classical music and I switched to these speakers from Epos 11's, for those who know, I cannot say more about the quality. Just listened to Water Lily Acoustics' SACD of Shostakovich 7 from St Petersburg. All I can say is "wow". But Boulez and Cleveland doing Debussy from 1992 on good old PCM sounds almost as good. Who would have thought Onkyo could produce such a great miniature.
