(More customer reviews)If you're thinking of getting just the sub ... think again. The laws of physics haven't been repealed; the way they get bass out of this small sub is to use equalization in the powerful companion SC-1250 amplifier. That is, you tell the amp you've hooked up this sub, and it boosts the low bass appropriately to get the right output. So as they say, you need the Velodyne amp to use this sub, unless you plan to create and test your own equalization, and use a massively powerful amp to drive it.
For what it is, though, it's a good product, though pricey when you include all the components. It's a very compact sub for custom or high end installs. You would probably want at least two of these for all but a small room. So you end up paying a big premium when it's all added up.

Can't find ANYTHING wrong with it. :) Cooling fans are a GREAT FEATURE! :D This thing stays VERY COOL under 2 Ohm loads. Probably the coolest operating amp I've come across. I've got this baby hooked up to 2 Alpine SWR-1242Ds (4 Ohm operation) with a Pyle PYX-3X Crossover to "cross" out them high frequencies. I do not believe it's putting out 1600 Watts below 50 Hz, but I bet it IS somewhere along the lines of 1100-1300. It's all wired in 12 Gauge Wire. Maybe Upgrade? ANYWAY, Great product. CRYSTAL CLEAR. :)

JBL Balboa SUB 10 - 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this subwoofer to replace an old subwoofer from a HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) system. I chose this particular subwoofer first because of the brand and second because of the price. I have used JBL products for years (Home, Car, and Professional) and have always been very pleased with their performance. This one is no different.
When it arrived, I was quite surprised at it's size. It is much bigger than I expected for a single 10" subwoofer but still comfortably fits in next to my entertainment center.
As for the sound, I would consider this subwoofer very good but not great. It has much better low end extension than your typical HTIB subwoofer but it's not going to shake the ground. I have never been fond of 10" low frequency drivers and this one isn't going to change my view of them. For some reason, I always find 10" drivers to be more "muddy" sounding than a 12" or even an 8" driver. However, when the next step up (12") costs three times what this one does, I can certainly make an exception. That said, this subwoofer does sound good and has no trouble filling my entire living room with good solid bass.
The features on this subwoofer are also very good. It has speaker level and line level stereo inputs as well as a separate line level LFE input for feeding from a Home Theater receiver. One thing to note, the manual says that the LFE input will bypass the crossover setting. This is actually preferable since the crossover function should be handled by your receiver so that the sub picks up where the main speakers drop off and there is no or very little frequency overlap.
One thing to be cautious of is the power that this thing has. 100w RMS/225w Peak may not sound like much but it is more than enough to fill your average living room/den or to upset your neighbors if you live in an apartment.
All in all, this is an excellent choice for the price and I am very pleased with it.

I was apprehensive about in-wall subs, but I almost lost it when they came to life for the first time. I am glad I went with the Polk in-wall sub solution. I decided to take a chance on the AMP3 and am very satisfied with the sound and apparent quality of the AMP3. The Amp 3 stereo power amplifier from AudioSource is a powerful addition to your home audio system and home theater. A simple design houses a high-end, high-power amplifier that is easy to set up and use. But that must be a misprint about the $2,200 price tag.
You'd be crazy to spend over $200 for one, and you'd likely get one for closer to $100 if you shop around.

Marantz MM7025 Stereo Power Amplifier (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I needed a decent power amp to attach to the active equalizer of my Bose 901s which is in turn connected to the front channel pre-outs of my Yamaha RXV667 receiver.
Having never really been a fan of Marantz products for cosmetic reasons (unfair I know) I'm really impressed as it is a really nicely built piece of kit.
I had a very real concern that the presence of a cooling fan grill on the back of the amp was going to result in unwanted noise - it doesn't. In actually fact the internal design of the amp is interesting in that there is a central alloy box section tubular heat-sink running front to back with the cooling fan mounted on the inner end of the tube (so immediately behind the front face plate). The fan seems to be temp sensor triggered and spins very slowly and thus completely inaudible even when one is inches away.
Audio performance is completely transparent - effortless power on demand and absolute silence when on but no signal applied. Perfect!
