Chicago Gaming Model 1015 Digital Bubbler Jukebox Review

I have one of these and it is a good solid machine. Clean amplifier and very nice speakers.
At first it was klunky loading music (ripping audio CDs only) but then I figured out how to hack it to take easily converted MP3s over my home network.
The user interface is klunky as well, but overall operation, sound and quality is very good. The Digital Bubbler 1015 Hack is on the internet.

Want to re-create the classic jukebox vibe but with a 21st-century sound system? Turn to the 600CD Digital Bubbler jukebox, a full-size commercial reproduction of the classic Wurlitzer Model 1015 in a fresh, updated digital format. Designed for use in homes, offices, social clubs, rec rooms, schools, dorms, and more, the 600CD combines a 250-watt digital amplifier with a 250 GB hard drive that digitally stores up to 600 CDs worth of music. As a result, you can enjoy true CD-quality fidelity through a system that looks like it came from the set of Arnold's Drive-In. The system pumps its 250 watts of power through four hi-fidelity speakers with outstanding sound reproduction for virtually any room in the house. The system's housing, meanwhile, includes several eye-catching, rotating color cylinders and eight bubble tubes to help re-create the vibrant jukebox look.
The 600CD Digital Bubbler is easy to use: simply insert your CDs, and the Digital Bubbler will automatically load the music onto its hard drive. The machine then searches an online database of more than 1.6 million song titles to automatically catalog your music, with the original album art and track titles showing up on the rich amber LCD display. Once updated, the jukebox offers four modes of track selection, so you can quickly navigate a huge selection of music by artist, album, song title, and even genre. Note that the 600CD is not touchscreen enabled but employs touch buttons on each side of the screen to make selections. And to make the 600CD even more functional, the manufacturer included built-in moving wheels for easy transport. The 600CD measures 33.5 by 61 by 24.5 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 315 pounds.

NuForce Icon HDP - Headphone amplifier - silver Review

NuForce Icon HDP - Headphone amplifier - silver
Average Reviews:

I am impressed with this little Nuforce HDP both as a DAC and as a headphone amplifier; which is high praise from someone who owns a $15,000 headphone rig with Stax SR-007, Sennheiser HE60 and HD800 headphones, a Woo WES amp, Eddie Current ZDT amp, and PS Audio Perfectwave DAC.
The HDP seems to offer a lot of performance in a small package, and easily outperforms my original Nuforce Icon amp that I bought May 2008 for my computer desktop. And the beauty is that it is small enough that I can use the HDP's superior DAC to feed the original Icon when I want to listen to speakers (both amps are the same size). The feature list is quite full, including 24/96 bit rate USB and 3.5 mm 24/96 optical inputs, 24/192 coax input, RCA or 3.5 mm analog input, 1/4" headphone output, and variable output level RCA preamp out. Not many DACs in this price range offer 24 bit/96 Khz sampling rates, and even my 2x more costly Apogee mini-DAC only does 24/48 via USB.
The HDP using 24/96 USB input from my Macbook beats all my other $100 - $500 USB DAC/amps in the house, and even beats the headphone output of my Apogee mini-DAC with USB. The HDP's RCA line-out seems almost equivalent to the Apogee's 1/8" line-out as well, where the Apogee seems to be a little more refined sounding at times (if using my upgraded Sigma 11 power supply). The HDP is very detailed and transparent, with good sense of air and space, and offers a deeper soundstage than the Apogee headphone out. The HDP bass has great extension and impact, with rich mids and sparkly crisp treble. And it's just a little to the warm side of neutral, so I can still enjoy it with brighter headphones like my HD800 or Head-direct HE-5. Likewise it is also a good match for my HD600 headphones and my re-cabled Denon D7000 which can sound darker on the wrong amps.
Some amplifiers that are good with full-size headphones may not be a good match with very sensitive in ear monitors (aka earphones or IEM), and they might have noise, or hiss that is not otherwise detectable with full-size phones. Well, that is not a problem here. I find the HDP to be an excellent match with all my very sensitive universal and custom molded in ear monitors, including Monster Turbine Pro Gold, Westone 2, Westone 3, Westone ES3X, Ultimate Ears 11Pro and JH Audio 13Pro. It does a very good job with all of them, despite their widely varying sound signatures. The UE11Pro can sometimes be bass heavy or have some recessed midrange with the wrong amp; but neither of these are a problem with the HDP, even though it is not a bass-lite or forward sounding amplifier.
How they managed to squeeze such good sound into a price this low is unclear to me, because you basically have to spend $700-$900 for a better DAC (Apogee or Stello) and $700-$1,000 for a better amp (upgraded Woo WA6 or ALO Amphora), and you'd have to buy both a DAC and Amp to get most of the features of the HDP. (Except for analog inputs for iPod or other players, where many DAC's don't include those).
I will conclude by mentioning a couple of issues that I have. The HDP sounds very good with a wide variety of headphones, but it might not be optimal with all of them. With my Head-direct HiFiMan HE-5 and Grado HF-2, if I try to play those headphones at very high volume levels (closer to max) then the sound can get a little strident and fatiguing in the highs. I've heard this same thing with the HE-5 and a $700 Grahm Slee Solo SRG II, and that's probably because the HE-5 are very difficult to drive low impedance headphone and require a lot of current. With the HE-5 headphones this happens at volume levels that are much higher than my Woo WA6 tube amp can hope to achieve, so if I never tried to play the HDP louder than my WA6 I would not have heard this. The Grado HF-2 can be a little boosted in the upper mids and lower treble, and they just seem to respond better to my tube amps to tone them down a notch when trying to play them at very loud levels (levels that would be damaging or harmful for more than a few minutes). At normal to moderately loud levels this is never an issue.
Another issue is that the volume pot can have some channel imbalance at the very low end of the volume control when using very sensitive in ear monitors which don't require turning up the volume knob very much. This is common with most lower price gear when using IEM, but can be alleviated by turning down the computer system volume if you are using the USB input. However, none of these issues would prevent me from highly recommending this product. It makes me eager to think about trying their high-end products at some point.

JL Audio HD600/4 Class D 600 Watt 4 Channel Full Dash Range Car Amplifier Review

JL Audio HD600/4 Class D 600 Watt 4 Channel Full Dash Range Car Amplifier

After paying this much for an amp, my expectations were quite high.
The amp exceeded every expectation I had.
First- The build quality is absolutely top rate. The removable connectors fit very tightly. The removable control panel has a positive lock so it can not vibrate or make noise. The RCA inputs are of excellent quality. A nice touch is that you can mount the amp on either side. This was nice because in my installation it worked better to have the back side facing up.
The next thing I observed after the installation was how low the noise floor really was. I could not hear it. The noise I could barely hear was actually coming from the source deck. I measured the noise floor at -109 Db with an Audio Precision Portable 1. That is the best I have ever measured on a car audio device. The ground isolated RCA inputs are a nice touch. No ground loops are possible.
In my installation I am using it to power a set of JBL 660GTi speakers in bi-amp mode.
I was worried that the anti-clipping circuitry or being a full digital amp would color the sound. I had nothing to worry about. The sound is very smooth and the transients are sharp and clear, but not harsh. When driven hard, I could detect the anti-clipping circuitry activating, but it was not too objectionable.
I was surprised that the amp is quite efficient. The fuse size is only 50A, for a 600 watt RMS amp.
I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Alpine PDX M6 - Amplifier - 1-channel Review

Alpine PDX M6 - Amplifier - 1-channel
Average Reviews:

I got this amp 2 weeks ago to power a JL Audio 12W3-2 in a custom sealed box. Instead of using the crappy terminals that come with a sub box, we hardwired Monster 402 XLN Extreme speaker cable to the woofer and used the Alpine connectors for the amp. I don't like boomy bass and don't listen to rap so I was going for SQ, not SPL, and after burning in the new sub for 40 hours, I started tweaking my system. The sub is rated to 500w so I called JL Audio and the Tech told me this amp is a good match at 600 w into 2 ohms. At first the sub seemed UNDER-powered, listless and lifeless, but with good kick drum quality. It just didn't pound enough. Then I tweaked the system with a professional installer and what a difference that made! He ended up turning the gain all the way to max, and I set the sub output in the JVC KW-XR-810 to plus 6 and use the Alpine RUX-KNOB to control the output. We crossed over the Alpine SPR-17S and SPR-69C's at 85 Hz on the JL XD400/4 amp that powers them. Then we used the parametric EQ in the head unit to augment the midbass (plus 2 db at 100hz-medium band) of the Alpine speakers, set the tweeter crossover to minus 3db, and slightly increased frequencies at 1Khz and 10 Khz, narrow band on the parametric EQ. After some experimentation using the Sheffield Drum Track reference DVD, we dialed in the sub, and the rest of the system with tremendous results. The amp provides PLENTY of real hard kick to the drums, and it sounds so clean and lifelike. I'm a professional drummer and I must say I am amazed at the bass quality. I've heard Morel and JL W7 subs that don't sound as good as what I've got in the trunk of a 2007 Impala!! I should add that I Dynamated the doors and trunk completely and then covered the Dynamat with second skin Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro. Interconnects are Streetwires 7N's. The sub sounds absolutely fantastic powered by the Alpine amp!! I goes DEEP and LOUD without distortion and sounds like a 1000 watt amp!! Congratulations to Alpine for correcting the noise and heat issues with the first series of PDX amps and for producing a tremendous product in such a small but efficient design. I don't even need a cap with this setup. I am in my 50's and listen to progressive rock from the 70's and 80's and the Seconds Out CD from Genesis has some of the best recorded low bass ever, courtesy of Mike Rutherford's Taurus bass pedals which go down to 18hz. My car literally shakes with the energy from this JL/Alpine combo, yet is not boomy or distorted, just powerful and lifelike. No matter how far I turn up the volume, the sound remains clear, detailed, and undistorted. My friend who has the JL W7-13-3 sub is so impressed, he's ditching his JL 1000/1 amp for A PAIR of PDX-M6's (they're stackable); one amp to power each voice coil of his monster sub. He has an extra battery, gi-normous alternator, 4 farad capacitor, "the big three" with 0 gauge wires, etc. and yet my sub sounds BETTER. This is the best Alpine product I have ever owned.

JL Audio XD400/4 - Amplifier - 4-channel Review

JL Audio XD400/4 - Amplifier - 4-channel

I bought this amp to power a pair of Polk 6.5" component speakers and a JL Audio 8" sub in my 2011 Honda CR-V. The amp is fed with the output from an Audiocontrol 2-channel line output converter. The amp is very small (slightly wider than a dollar bill) and fits underneath the driver's seat with plenty of room to spare. The amp is extremely well built, impeccably finished, and has alot of great design details. All the wires are secured with allen screws which allows you to tighten them down more strongly without possible stripping of the screw heads as you do with common flat/phillips screw heads. The amp controls are hidden underneath a cover and that the wire connections are all on one side. In my application, all this makes for a VERY clean looking install with no visible wires. The amp also has alot of adjustment switches to make it very flexible in terms of connectivity. The low and high pass filters have defined indentations to allow for precise setting of cutoff frequencies. I bridged two of the channels to power the 8" sub.
The amp seems to power the speakers/sub effortlessly with no audible noise or distortion. I can crank up the volume so loud that it is uncomfortable for me to listen to but the amp still puts out clean sound. It is quite pricey, but well worth the cost. TMK, it is one of the smallest amps on the market that puts out this much power. Overall, a very great purchase!
