Velodyne VDR-12BV 12-inch 400 Watt Powered Subwoofer with Remote Control Review

Velodyne VDR-12BV 12-inch 400 Watt Powered Subwoofer with Remote Control

I searched for a subwoofer to pair with my front corner sub, an M&K 150THX. I wanted a remote volume control. This limited me to the Velodyne brand. My room is 16.5' by 24' with a cathedral ceiling and is open on one side. I wanted a 12" sub since the M&K is a dual 12" model and since the second sub would be placed close to the listening position, did not want an over powering 15" sub. The DD, DEQ, and Optimum lines are very expensive. That leaves the DLS and VDR. The VDR is identical to the DLS in performance (it lacks a set-up feature that I am not to sure about). The woofer, the amp, and the rear panel inputs, outputs and switches are identical. Per the discussion sites, the VDR series, now discontinued, was created to be sold at mass merchandise stores at a lower price (for those "site" people, they sent a July 2009 build date model). The price here made it an easy choice.
The sub came two days after ordering from HiDef. It came in perfect condition. With the remote, it was easy to integrate into my PSB surround system. More tests to follow, but so far so good. I gave it 5 stars bases on the value, I'm sure there are better more powerful subs, but I didn't need anything more than this one.

JuicedLink DT454 4 Channel DSLR Preamp / Meter / Phantom / AGC Disabler Review

JuicedLink DT454 4 Channel DSLR Preamp / Meter / Phantom / AGC Disabler

The DT454 is an exceptional preamplifer that gets the job done.
I was having trouble picking which preamps to get, and then I came across this one and surprisingly there were no reviews anywhere and very few Youtube tests.
So I bought this one because of the bad reviews of a few other preamps.
First of all, this contraption will perform excellently with a little bit of patience and knowledge about sound tech. Proper booming techniques are needed to make a scene pull out well. This amplifier does not change any of that. On top of that it is not something that you can pull out and record with, I suggest reading the manual first. Save yourself the trouble in post and just clean it up in pre.
Alright, I will just get to the point and tell you what you want to hear:
-It records cleanly and efficiently
-It is very easy to use with a little bit of reading
-Fixes AGC, Hallelujah!
-Finally, the sound quality you can get from this makes up for any grain in a shot or a mistake in the camera work. It's fantastic.
It can plug in via 3.5mm (male)to 3.5mm (male) (which comes with the package or you can buy one offline or from a radio shack)
Here is the stuff you don't want to hear:
-Can get very tedious in setup of the preamp
-Just like any preamp, interference will still make your audio garbled; make sure to bring headphones or do a test recording of the audio before each of your filming's or recordings.
-Biggest and most annoying... *drum roll* Fine tuning your preamp to your camera.
Yes you have to fine tune your preamp to whatever you are using. Otherwise the camera will still use the AGC thus picking up a lot of unnecessary noise! This can get very annoying and tedious if you don't understand a thing about preamps or sound tech.
Aside from the negatives of this preamp, the positives outweigh those details. The XLR inputs make up for everything and manual audio control will make all the difference in a movie or event filming!I leave you with this, don't let others tell you what's the best camcorder or camera, it's all in the eye of the user and how creative he or she is. Now get out there and make the best of this fine piece of equipment.
~Robert Riegel,
a current user of the DT454

JuicedLink CX231 2 XLR Input Camcorder Adapter/Preamp with 12/48V Phantom Power Review

Could not be more pleased with this item! It definitely is "low noise", I can't hear any at all, even with the volume cranked. Small, light weight, portable, high quality...just what I needed. It supplies phantom power, even 12V, which works perfect for my Audio Technica mics, so I can conserve battery. I use it with my Canon T2i running Magic Lantern (to disable to cameras very noisy AGC). This preamp/mixer is a perfect compliment. And what's better, on their website, there's a truck load of really informative videos that helped me make my decision in not only buying this product, but mics and other things as well. Totally worth it!
