TDK Life on Record 77000015378 USB Belt Drive Turntable Review

I really had high hopes for this product, I am fairly computer savvy and had no problems setting up the turntable and installing the software.
That being said I found the software to be almost non-functional. I was unable to listen while I was recording! That is a big fail.
Vinyl (especially vinyl like mine that has been ever so carefully preserved) has a tendency to ski, pop etc.
Without being able to hear what is being recorded you could easily record an hour of a skip or not hear when the side is over and just record blank space.
There are very few hidden tracks on an LP.
The turntable itself is a very nice machine. I plugged it into the Home theater, slipped on an old Master Disc (remember those?) and was highly impressed with the sound quality.
There is a lot to be said for the way vinyl sounds after so many years of digital music.
TDK, you have a nice piece of hardware here, now make software that is up to the task.

TEAC GF-350 Turntable / CD-Recorder Review

TEAC GF-350 Turntable / CD-Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here's a new electronic wonder that could have been truly great, but isn't.
On the plus side, it's great looking and very easy to use. Put in an Audio CDR or Audio CDRW (it won't take blank computer discs), adjust the recording volume, push a button and voila... you have a CDR of your old favorite record album or cassette. It can automatically insert track breaks as well, but it is probably better to use the manual track break insertion method (as recommended by the instruction manual), as many original musical sources have quiet spots that can "trick" the Teac into adding one where you don't want it.
Now for the negative... as previous reviewers have stated, the playback sound is disappointment, and by this I am referring to what you get when you put your newly created CDR into your stereo system. The bass response is not adequate. This is the result of Teac chosing to use a ceramic cartridge for the tonearm. This otherwise great machine would have been better served with a magnetic cartridge. Yes, it would have cost more, but would have been worth it.
A few lesser negative points include the fact that Teac chose to include an AM/FM radio rather than a cassette player. My guess is most people would buy this machine to transcribe their old collection of LPs and cassettes that have not been received official release in compact disc format. So why the radio instead of a cassette player? You can record cassettes using the input jacks and provided cables, but you also have to "tie" the Teac to your stereo system in order to do so. Also, what's the story with having input jacks, but no output jacks? You have to listen to the records on the okay, but small speakers provided in the unit, but you cannot listen directly through your stereo system.
In summary, this is a fine machine for those who are not audiophiles. Again, it is easy to use and after a couple of "practice" recordings, you can burn CDRs as fast as it takes the records to play. But if you're expecting CD-quality results, you'll have to use the input jacks to connect to your old magnetic cartridge turntable. This could have been best electronic invention since the advent of the CD, but it falls a little short.

Finally, there's a way to burn vinyl to CD that doesn't require a computer or an engineering degree. With Teac's GF-350 turntable and CD recorder combo system, you simply load a blank CD-R or CD-RW, put on your LP, press "record," lower the tone arm, and press "play." You can record the entire album or simply pull select favorites from your entire collection to make your own unique compilations. Monitor your recording through the systems amplifier (3.5 watts per channel x 2) and twin 3-inch speakers, or avail yourself of the convenient front-panel .125-inch headphone jack. The system is finished in black with a handsome woodgrain texture. Level meters and other CD feedback is visible from the system's backlit LCD. Please note that the GF-350 records only with CDs designated as "music" or "digital audio" (also CD-DA); computer-grade data CD-Rs are incompatible. The GF-350 also offers features like automatic or manual track increment options (with 2 different level thresholds to choose from), manual record-level control, and an auxiliary set of RCA stereo analog audio inputs for recording from external sources like cassette, reel-to-reel tape, or even another CD player or MP3 player. Playback features include shuffle play, repeat play (1/all), and 32-track programming.Tune in your favorite swing or big-band station on the rotary analog AM/FM tuner. The turntable supports 33-1/3, 45, or 78 rpm records, so you can play your entire collection--it even comes with a handy center-hole adapter for your 7-inch/45 rpm singles. A remote lets you operate everything from the comfort of your easy chair (but remember, you still have to get up to flip the records!).What's in the Box GF-350 system, 7-inch record adapter, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Stanton STR8150 High Torque Direct Drive DJ Turntable Review

Stanton STR8150 High Torque Direct Drive DJ Turntable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Stanton is promoting this turntable to the mixing/scratching set. However, if you're an old coot like me who just wants a good quality turntable that will play your LP's, 45's and 78's, this is the one to get.
The STR8-150 is solidly built; the entire thing weighs about 36 pounds. The platter is a little lighter than some other turntables I've seen, but there's just no rumble at all. There are both analogue and digital outputs that allow you to hook up the turntable to practically any stereo, home theater system or computer (no special phono-level inputs required).
A bonus feature of this turntable is the variable speed control that allows you to actually play records as low as 16 rpm (used for some special use records) or up to 90 rpm (used on many early acoustic "78's").
A good quality Stanton cartridge comes with the turntable and a 78 stylus is available for it.
The only thing missing is a dust cover or an option to buy one as an accessory.

The ultimate night-club, party, or compilation tool, Stanton's rugged and graceful STR8-150, with its skip-proof straight tone arm, offers everything professional DJs need--and nothing they don't. In creating the STR8-150, Stanton went back to basics and re-engineered everything, using quality as its prime consideration. The 'table uses durable steel construction designed to minimize feedback, an ultra-stable platter and tone arm, and an industry-leading high-torque motor producing more than 4.5 Kgf-cm.Key features include key correction, reverse playback, up to +/-50 percent pitch adjustment, 3-speed playback (33-1/3, 45, and 78), and even an S/PDIF coaxial digital-audio output so you can plug the turntable directly into a CD recorder, digital surround receiver, or PC/Macintosh sound card. Adjustable start and break speeds let you tailor the quartz-lock 'table's action to your mixing style. When key correction is on, the pitch slider will only affect the speed of the platter. The key, or tone, will remain at 0 percent. This is ideal for bringing song B up to the tempo of song A for a seamless mix, without altering the tonal makeup of song B.The STR8-150 also includes adjustable feet, a slipmat, "L"-shaped cables, and the Stanton 680HP cartridge mounted on headshell. What's in the Box Platter, tone arm, cartridge and headshell, counterweight, slipmat, L-shaped cables, a 45 rpm adapter, a user's manual, an AC power cord, a target light, and warranty information.

Audio-Technica AT-LP240-USB Direct-Drive Turntable, USB and Analog Review

Audio-Technica AT-LP240-USB Direct-Drive Turntable, USB and Analog

I received this unit yesterday and set it up last night in about an hour. I was immediately impressed by the quality of construction. The unit is very heavy and radiates an air and look of an 'audiophile' piece. I purchased a Shure M97 cartridge to go with it and am equally impressed with that.
The packaging was excellent. I would just caution to be extra careful when unpacking as some of the parts are in nooks and crannies in the box and are a little difficult to see at first.
After setup, I spun a few old records that I inherited from my Dad and was blown away by the warm, velvety sound of this combo. The platter starts and stops on a dime when the 'start' button is pressed and locks into it's speed incredibally quickly. The motor is very strong and hold it's speed incredibally well.
As I am writing this I am spinning 'The Meters Cabbage Alley', and wooow, what a joy!
This is a very, very nice turntable.
