(More customer reviews)This sub is great for what it is, a budget oriented 10" sub that plays loud, efficient, and very musical. What it isn't however, is a subwoofer worthy of the Emp Tek flagship e55ti tower speakers. EMP Tek needs a 12" sub similar to the RBH SX-12, Epik Legend or Rythmik FV12 to do justice to those towers. The problem with this subwoofer is one thing:
Extension. 35hz as a 3db down point is just not low enough! It's fine for music, and the 10"/100w will fill a small to medium sized room decently, but movies have bass content into the teens, so a 22hz 3db downpoint is more realistic! Bigger and stronger, please and thanks!
With all that said, I'd still pit this subwoofer against many in its price class. That includes some nice subs like the Velodyne Impact-12, HSU STF-1, Lavasub 12", Dayton Sub120 etc. This is still MUCH better company to be in than the total garbage subwoofers you'll find at best buy IE Klipsch, Polk, Bose. or the overpriced speaker company subs you'll sometimes find IE Paradigm, PSB, Axiom.
I guess my POINT is that EMP Tek needs a step-up model from the ES10i because the ES10i is a great budget subwoofer but budget subwoofers aren't great for great home theaters because the sub can make a great movie amazing, and a bad action movie worthwhile!
Bottom Line: Feel free to buy this sub if this price point appeals to you. But if you want a truly worthwhile experience, double up on the price and get a better sub, and better yet, get two in order to get great in-room response. Yes, buy two huge subs. If you're a woman and the idea doesn't appeal to you, then you just made me cry. If you're a man and the idea doesn't appeal to your wife, then you had better cry.
